Nokia hosts the German 6G project KOMSENS-6G

2022-11-17

Espoo, Finland - Nokia has announced that it will partner with the German Ministry of Education and Research for the KOMSENS-6G pilot project. The aim of the project is to promote global 6G standardization from a German and European perspective, with a strong focus on networking as a sensor technology.

Nokia will work closely with a German consortium of industry, experts, startups, research institutes and universities. KOMSENS-6G is part of the overall German 6G programme with a total investment of €14.9 million and is expected to last for three years, collaborating with other projects and institutions under the banner of the 6G German platform.

In the 6G space, sensing will be an important enabling technology that is key to enabling the digital economy. Sensing services will be deeply integrated into wireless networks and operate in sync with communications services. Nokia will play a key role in the development of front-end, baseband, RAN protocols, data processing, network security and other areas.

Upon completion of the three-year project, KOMSENS-6G aims to provide a network architecture that integrates sensing and communication, while demonstrating this integrated service.

6G will not only build on existing technologies and systems, but will also extend and transform existing networks. By being aware of invisible cars, we can avoid many traffic accidents. We can communicate with machines remotely, perceive everything they perceive, and direct them with simple commands.
